The Pilgrim's Rest Hotel is near the heritage town of Lismore and the pretty fishing village of Cappoquin in the County of Waterford, Ireland. It is beautifully situated adjacent to mount melleray abbey and close to the Glenshelane river at the foot of the Knockmealdown mountains.

Most of Lismore town centre dates from the 19th Century. The history of Lismore dates back over a thousand years. The foundation of the town were laid in the year 636AD when the monastery of St. Carthage was built.

Lismore is one of the principal monasteries of the Irish church. Also the Vikings visited the town and burned the monastery down on no less than eight occasions.

The Normans took control of the town during their conquest of the Ireland.
In the year 1171 King Henry II of England ordered the building of a castle in the town prince John completed the work in 1185. Lismore Castle was the birthplace of Robert Boyle the scientist whose name lives on in "Boyles Law"

The modern town was planned and built during the 19th century and is now one of Ireland's important Heritage Towns.

Places to visit are vast in this most scenic area. Cappoquin is famous for its excellent fishing in the Blackwater river, This is one very beautiful Irish Fishing town.

The Vee Drive, a pass between the Knockmealdown and Comeragh Mountains, has stunning views. There are many walking trails including the Glenshelane river walk. There is a beautiful harbour at Youghal and there are some extremely beautiful beaches at Clonea and Ardmore just to mention a few!
